(Friday, 1st December) This year’s coveted eir Spider Grand Prix has been awarded to Rubicoin. Ruicoin is an online service that helps investors who are starting out through education, guidance, and a simplified investing journey.
Celebrating their 22nd year, the eir Spider Awards, hosted by Today FM DJs Dermot Whelan and Dave Moore, recognise businesses and community organisations across the Island of Ireland for their creativity and innovation, and provide an important opportunity to recognise and showcase online excellence.
Rubicoin officially founded in January 2013 when CEO Emmet Savage and COO John Tyrrell bonded over their shared enthusiasm for technology and the stock market. Now based on the UCD campus, the company has launched their ‘Learn by Rubicoin’ app, aiming to help demystify the stock market. The company guides new investors through the world of investing by giving jargon-free lessons and allowing users to take control of their financial future. They also collected the Best Digital Start Up award on the night.
Dylan Collins was presented with the Digital Hero award which is one of the most important awards of the eir Spider Awards. The first ever two-time winner of this award (having won the Internet Hero Award in 2011), Dylan is one of Europe’s most experienced digital media entrepreneurs, focusing on games, kid’s entertainment - and the technology which underpins them.
His latest company, SuperAwesome, has become the go-to technology for kid-safe digital engagement. Their technology now ensures that over half a billion kids every month have their digital privacy protected with their interactions across brands and content. Customers now include Lego, Disney, Clarks and The Cartoon Network and SuperAwesome employs 100 people with offices in New York, Bangkok and Sydney.
Other notable winners for 2017 include Best Campaign for Toyota FaceItDown, Best in News, Publishing and Entertainment for Darkness into Light and Best Use of Video for Centra Live Well Campaign.
Commenting on the winners, Paul Mulqueen, Head of SMB, eir and Chairperson for the eir Spider Awards Judging Panel said, “The eir Spiders Awards have now become synonymous with excellence, and past winners quickly see the benefits from winning an award. Every year, as technology evolves, the competition for the eir Spider Awards intensifies which really shows us how far we’ve come in the past 22 years. This year was no exception, with some world class entries coming through. It is heartening to see the level of talent and professionalism out there – and we have seen this first hand through a year of nationwide business workshops, customer closeness sessions, submission reviews and ongoing customer engagement to ensure not only do businesses nationwide benefit from the eir Spiders but also to ensure that we in eir can learn from our customers.”
Established in 1996, the eir Spider Awards are the longest standing digital awards in Ireland - considered an important benchmark for distinction and excellence in web-based business strategies. Previous winners have been on the cutting edge of their chosen fields and have gone on to great success in their respective industries.
