eir’s Gigabit Fibre network now available in 47 towns across Ireland

More than 125,000 urban premises can connect to Gigabit Fibre

June 25th 2020: eir today announced that its Gigabit Fibre Network is now available to customers in 47 towns across Ireland, from Arklow to Athenry and from Tallaght to Tuam. More than 125,000 premises have already been passed since the programme began last year, with more homes and businesses passed weekly. The rollout brings speeds of up to 1GB straight to the customer’s home via a direct, unshared fibre line. Connected customers are now using eir’s Gigabit Fibre Network for remote working, seamless video conferencing, downloading games and streaming movies all at superfast speed.

eir CEO Carolan Lennon said "Having a reliable, superfast broadband connection has been of central importance to people and businesses throughout the country as we quickly migrated to spending more time than ever at home during the COVID-19 outbreak. We’re working from home, educating our children and connecting with our friends and families remotely, so reliable and speedy connectivity is vital. The IFN is the next stage in the evolution of eir’s fibre network, enabling eir to deliver a superfast, future-proofed broadband service straight into the home.

Our rollout of Gigabit Fibre has continued at pace, despite the outbreak. Thanks to the hard work of eir’s engineers, more than 125,000 premises in 47 urban locations nationwide have been passed with superfast broadband, with more added each week. Together with our rural fibre rollout programme, which completed last year, almost 500,000 premises can now access fibre broadband; meaning customers in 848 cities, towns, villages and rural locations throughout Ireland can now access Gigabit Fibre broadband. We are proud to connect the country throughout this unprecedented time.

The IFN is a key part of our €1 billion capital investment programme to build the very best network for our customers. Once complete, our fibre network will cover 84% of the premises in Ireland, with 90% of those served by fibre to the home."

Ireland’s Fibre Network includes a total investment of more than €500 million. This programme will see 1.4 million homes and businesses benefit from fibre to home. eir’s Gigabit Fibre Network has arrived to premises in the towns below and customers can check if they can already avail of this service at eir.ie/broadband/checkyourline/
