eir Statement on 3.6 GHz Spectrum Auction

(Issued 22 May 2017) Following the conclusion of the 3.6 GHz Band Spectrum Award conducted by the Commission for Communication Regulation (ComReg), eir has successfully purchased a package of spectrum blocks including:-

85MHz of spectrum in the main urban areas (Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Galway, Waterford)
80MHz of spectrum in remainder of the country.

The total cost of the spectrum purchase for the Group is €11.5m.

Commenting on the conclusion of the process, Richard Moat, eir CEO, said “The acquisition of this spectrum is the latest proof point as we continue to deliver exciting and new services as part of our vision to deliver increasingly converged products. The spectrum, and the subsequent frequency assignments within the bands, provides a strong footing for the rollout of 5G services and high-speed wireless broadband. The new spectrum also offers enhanced capability and flexibility, which allows us to expand our customer offerings across rural and urban Ireland. We are very happy with the outcome of the auction and we aim to be a market leader in utilising this new bandwidth. We have secured the optimal level of spectrum to meet our requirements for today but most importantly for the future.”
