eir today announced that it has reached a significant milestone in its €150 million mobile investment programme. Over 1,000 mobile sites have now been upgraded to deliver 4G coverage to more than 99% of the population of Ireland including over 200 new sites, with increased data speeds for customers, improved call quality and reliability as well as the expansion of Ireland’s largest 5G network to more towns and cities across Ireland.
eir introduced Ireland's largest 5G network 11 months ago and since then the availability of that network has increased more than threefold with 5G available on over 340 sites across Ireland and additional sites added weekly. 5G is the next generation of mobile connectivity, enabling eir customers to enjoy the unrivaled speed and reliability that 5G offers with peak speeds over 1Gbps.
Carolan Lennon CEO: "Reliable and fast connectivity are vital to supporting new ways of working, living, educating and keeping in touch. Throughout the COVID-19 emergency, eir has prioritised mobile capacity upgrades and coverage enhancements to facilitate remote working and connectivity for our customers on our 4G and 5G networks. 5G provides download speeds of up to 10 times faster than 4G. It provides a more reliable connection and lower latency. Speeds of over 1Gbps mean that movies, music and games can be downloaded instantly and video conferencing is faultless. We are proud to provide our customers with widespread access to the next generation of mobile connectivity and we will continue to expand our 5G network."
eir now has over 99% 4G population coverage in 19 counties including Carlow, Cavan, Clare, Dublin, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Leitrim, Limerick, Longford, Louth, Meath, Offaly, Roscommon, Sligo, Waterford, Westmeath, Wexford and Wicklow.
Customers need a 5G enabled handset in order to access 5G services. A range of handsets and plans are available with eir, including eir's Mobile Connect Plus plan, which includes No Limits Data, Unlimited Calls & Texts, 100 International Minutes and Texts and access to the eir Sport App. The plan starts at €49.99 for eir broadband customers and €59.99 for non-eir customers. No Limits Data means that customers will never have to worry about how they use their 5G data on Ireland's largest 5G network. To learn more about eir 5G visit eir.ie/5G/
