eir secures number one position in the Irish fibre broadband market with significant market share growth

eir, Ireland’s largest telecommunications provider, has today moved ahead of its competitors to claim the largest fibre broadband market share in Ireland, according to the ComReg quarterly key data report for Q3 2023.

The report from ComReg, the Commission for Communications Regulation, outlines that in Q3 2023, eir achieved an impressive 32.7% of the total fibre-to-the-home broadband subscriber lines, solidifying its position as industry leader. eir also remains the frontrunner in the overall fixed broadband market accounting for 27.2% of the retail subscriber lines.

The report findings follow significant investment by eir, with its ongoing network expansion recently bringing the total number of homes and businesses passed with FTTH to more than one million. A total of 2 million premises are passed by eir’s combined FTTH and Fibre-to-the-Cabinet (FTTC) networks, or 90% of premises in Ireland.

eir Managing Director for Consumer and Small Business, Susan Brady, said:

“We are immensely proud that our position as the number one broadband provider in Ireland has been solidified by becoming the number one fibre broadband provider too. As a society we have an ever-increasing need for more data and fast connectivity speeds in both our personal and professional lives. And we are proud that more Irish consumers are choosing eir for their fibre broadband.eir’s purpose is to connect for a better Ireland, and we’re committed to providing seamless connectivity for our customers that enriches lives and drives economic progress.

Reaching this major milestone in the broadband market has only been achievable with the significant investment, the tireless work of teams and a really strong retail performance in our stores. We recently undertook a significant €4 million investment to transform our key retail stores across the country. We're seeing significant growth in in-person shopping, despite predictions, and we are committed to retaining a strong presence on city and rural high streets and in retail outlets across the country”

eir has committed to rolling out its Gigabit fibre broadband network to 1.9 million premises, or 84% of homes and businesses in the country. The network build has been supported by more than €1 billion of investment to date. As well as broadband, investment is facilitating eir’s expansive 5G network rollout, with ultra fast data speeds now available in 600 towns and cities across Ireland, as well as €4 million investment in transforming and upgrading its entire network of retail stores.
